A challenging time for most people in the UK
The UK has some financial problems with debt. The country has to pay back this debt and that means cuts in expenditure and increases in tax. Unfortunately that means that it is going to affect the ordinary people of UK who are going to have to pay back these debts!
The cost of living is going up; we are seeing prices rises almost everywhere as businesses try to maintain their profits at our expense! This probably means that most of us will have to cut out at least some of the things that we enjoy, and spend less money on the essentials of life.
But there are bills that we simply have to keep paying out! But we can cut out unnecessary costs. We can reduce some bills by being more careful on what we spend.
Some bills, such as fuel bills, the cost of running a car and certain other outgoings simply have to be paid but these bills could perhaps be reduced with some effort on our part.
Take advice from an approved financial advisor regarding your mortgage, other loans and any financial commitments that you may have. They may be able to give you advice that could save you some money.
Helping ourselves
Most of us can find ways to reduce our bills. We may be able to save money on our energy bills by switching to another supplier. We may be able to change our shopping habits to reduce our food bills. We can all look for cheaper places to buy clothes. It just takes some effort on our part!
Coping in difficult times
Most things that we buy have become more expensive because of the VAT increases; although all basic foods and certain non-food items are VAT free. But be aware that many of the items we buy have also increased in price because the shops are trying to maintain or increase their profit margin.
The growing divide in the UK
We have a growing division in our society now. Those people with a good job and those people with cash in the bank will be the least affected by the financial crisis. They will still be able to afford the products and services they want.
But the average income households, and those who have lost their jobs or who are on low incomes or benefits, are the ones who are going to struggle to manage. It will not be easy to avoid falling behind with bills such as the mortgage or rent, fuel bills etc. Credit card bills may well become a real problem for many people.
Struggling to make ends meet?
There is not an easy answer on the best way to cope with money difficulties, every person and every situation is different. However there are people who do not know how to begin to sort out their problems or know what they can do to help themselves! Some people really struggle to manage their finances.
The first obvious step is for people to take control of their finances so that they can cope with what is happening around them. Their bank account is critical in this. It does not help anyone to get deeper into debt or to have to pay penalties to banks and credit card companies.
Those who are living off credit should act immediately. This is a pretty obvious statement, but so many people simply ignore their problems. They get out of their depth and become scared to act. Their problems escalate and the whole situation gets worse. People must make the effort and start to help themselves and their families.
Those people who need professional help must go to the appropriate, qualified professionals. There really is nothing they can do on their own.
But for most people there are some steps that they can take to manage their lives, even if they need professional help with some aspects of their finances.
